photo of Traffic Management Advisor in operation at Denver Center The Aviation Systems Division is responsible for developing and maintaining an internationally recognized capability in the application of automation science technologies to problems of National interest. This includes maintaining a multi-disciplinary research team comprised of individuals with advanced degrees and research accomplishments in the areas of guidance, navigation and controls; human factors; computer science; and operations research and in the development and operation of unique high fidelity human-in-the loop simulations. The current focus of the research is in support of the Aeronautics and Research Mission Directorate in the area of air transportation. The high fidelity human-in-the-loop simulation facilities support the application of information science technologies to the air transportation system as well as a variety of other customers including the Shuttle, the DOD, and the FAA.
